In partnership with the educational non-profit, Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano, and Master Composter Jim Strauss, the farmstead has implemented a new composting program. All of the animal waste and bedding, as well as plant debris from their three gardens, is being converted, on-site, into a valuable, nutrient-rich garden compost. Based on the average weight of manure and bedding collected daily, an estimated 16.5 TONS of waste per year is being kept from ending up in a landfill. Come help yourself to this “garden gold.” Every Friday, from 10:00pm until 12:30pm compost will be available for collection. Please bring your own bucket and shovel to collect your free compost. If you would like to learn more about composting and/or volunteer to help with the project, contact Jim Strauss at [email protected] or [email protected].
